What is Tangerine Essential Oil?

Tangerine Essential Oil

Tangerine essential oil is extracted from the peel of the tangerine orange fruit—Citrus reticulata or Citrus tangerina, a type of mandarin orange—and is characterised by its bright citrus aroma, which is sweeter than mandarin oil and more intense than sweet orange oil. Like mandarin oil, its phototoxicity is low compared to other citrus oils.

It is used in aromatherapy as a stress reliever and to treat digestive issues, and can be helpful in the prevention of stretch marks.

Properties

Tangerine essential oil is comprised mostly of limonene, and also includes of a-thujone, pinene, sabinene, camphene, y-terpinolene, myrcene, citronellal, linalool, terpineol-4-ol, geranial and nerol.

Its chemistry contributes to its antispasmodic, antiseptic, depurative, cytophylactic, stomachic, sedative and tonic properties.

How to use tangerine essential oil

Tangerine essential oil can be applied topically, in a diffuser, and in soap products.

Topical application

Blend one part tangerine oil with nine parts carrier oil to create a therapeutic massage oil that will increase circulation to the skin and relieve stress. Apply the blend to the abdomen to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy.

Via diffuser

Add 2-3 drops to a diffuser to create a stress-free environment and aid digestion. Diffusing oil of tangerine may also help children with sleep.

Try blending with cinnamon or bergamot essential oils.

In soap products

Tangerine oil gives soaps and bath bombs a delightfully sweet citrus aroma that your skin will love.

Essential Oils are highly concentrated and must be used with care.

Not to be taken internally.

Do not use tangerine essential oil for treating medical conditions without first speaking to a medical professional.
