Collection: Spearmint Oil

What is Spearmint Oil?

Spearmint oil is extracted from the flowering tops of the spearmint plant—Mentha spicata—via steam distillation, and is similar to peppermint oil but with a sweeter, more mellow aroma.

It is useful as a mental stimulant and for managing stress, as well as the relief of nausea and itchy skin.

Properties

Spearmint oil's lovely sweet minty smell is due to a high concentration of the terpenoid carvone, a stress reliever which is useful as an expectorant and for clearing the respiratory tract. Also abundant are  limonene—useful as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and an antiviral—and 1,8-cineol—a known fungicide and analgesic.
