Rice bran oil is extracted from rice bran, the hard brown layer that coats the rice—Oryza sativa—grain. It is a key ingredient in handmade soaps, and is popular as a cooking oil.
Properties
Rice bran oil has a rich vitamin, mineral, antioxidant and omega fatty acid profile. For example, it is naturally high in such antioxidants as squalene, tocopherols and tocotrienols (both related to vitamin E), phytosterols, gamma oryzanol, and polyphenols.Â
Rice bran oil in soap
This is a soft, gentle and emollient oil, rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and as such is a favoured ingredient in cold process soap making. When used in soap, rice bran oil can be beneficial for dry or mature skin.Â
