Collection: Nutmeg Essential Oil
What is Nutmeg Essential Oil?

Nutmeg essential oil is steam-distilled from the ground seeds of the fragrant or true nutmeg tree—Myristica fragrans— and is characterised by a scent best described as warm, spicy and uplifting.
Properties
Nutmeg essential oil is rich in d-pinene, limonene, d-borneol, l-terpineol, geraniol, safrol, and myristicin, with proven anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties.
Nutmeg oil has been used to fight respiratory ailments and may displace mucus in the chest. It has mild pain killing properties.
Other suggested but unproven properties include increased libido and mood. Myristicin can be toxic, so it's particularly important not to ingest nutmeg oil (or any essential oil without medical supervision). Â
How to use nutmeg essential oil
Oil of nutmeg can be applied topically, in vapour, and in soap products.
Topical application
When using nutmeg oil topically, use it sparingly, ideally with a generous amount of carrier oil.
Like black pepper, cardamom and clove bud oils, nutmeg is a warming oil, so it's well suited for blending into a deep tissue massage oil. Simply add 1-2 drops to a carrier oil to melt away that muscle pain. Alternatively, the blend can be massaged into the temples to relieve headache.
PMS symptoms can be relieved by soaking in a hot bath that includes 1-2 drops of nutmeg oil.Â
In steam
Improve respiratory function with a good old fashioned steam inhalation. Add a couple of drops to a bowl of boiled water and breathe in the vapour.
Add a couple of drops to a diffuser to fill your living space with a deliciously spicy aroma, reduce stress and improve mental focus.
Add a bit of spice to your citrus diffuser blend by mixing in one or two drops of nutmeg oil.Â
In soaps
Soaps and bath bombs that include nutmeg oil will leave your skin smelling woody, warm and spicy. The oil is powerfully cleansing and effective against acne, dark spots and fine lines.
